Who I Am & What This Is
Hey, I’m Alex Bush.
At 52, I was out of shape, out of energy, and out of patience with myself. I’d spent so long putting everyone and everything else first that I’d stopped noticing how far I’d let myself fall on that list.
That year, I finally turned some of that same commitment toward myself. It felt selfish at first but turns out, taking care of myself wasn’t selfish at all. It was what allowed me to show up better for everyone else.
This blog came out of that decision.
What started as a physical transformation didn’t stay one. Getting in shape forced me to look at things that had very little to do with the way I looked: how I thought, what I believed, why I reacted the way I did, what I was holding onto, and how much of the person I’d become was actually someone I’d chosen to be.
That’s the part I never saw coming.
So while you’ll find plenty here about training, nutrition, discipline, and the work behind the physical transformation, most of what I write has become about something else: understanding ourselves a little better and figuring out what to do with that understanding once we have it.
I write for myself first, honestly. Writing has become one of the ways I work through things. But if you’re standing somewhere near where I was standing, wondering whether it’s too late to change something about yourself or your life, take the time to read. I wrote it for you too.
You’ll find longer essays that connect into a larger story about who we become and why, Motivation Monday posts I write each week for my accountability group, reflections on mindset and growth along the way, stories from the Underground, the community that’s held me accountable through much of this journey, and the training and mindset work behind the physical transformation.
Everything is organized below, along with a suggested reading order if you’d rather start at the beginning.
