“I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self.” — Attributed to Aristotle
Most of the battles that actually matter aren’t against anybody out there, they’re against us. The alarm going off when the bed feels too good. The workout we could talk ourselves out of. Doing the thing that’s necessary instead of the thing that’s easy. Choosing to keep going when quitting would cost us nothing because nobody would even know. We tend to look at the big external stuff and call that strength. But the real strength? It’s usually quiet. It’s the stuff that happens when no one’s watching, in the choices we stack up day after day. The hardest fight isn’t against an opponent. It’s against the habits, the excuses, and the impulses trying to drag us back to who we used to be, instead of who we’re becoming.
New week, another shot to keep moving forward and keep becoming who we’re after.
