“The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” — Author unknown, often attributed to Michelangelo
The biggest danger isn’t aiming too high and missing. It’s aiming too low and succeeding. Sometimes the goals we hit are the very things keeping us from finding out what we’re actually capable of. Comfort can feel like progress when really it’s just familiarity. If we’re hitting every target we set, maybe that’s not the win it looks like. Maybe it’s a question. Is the target actually challenging us, or have we just gotten good at clearing a bar we set low on purpose?
Growth rarely shows up inside the comfort zone. So this week, let’s set one goal that makes us a little uncomfortable. The kind we’re not sure we’ll reach. We may miss, but we will almost certainly grow.
